Utah Freedom Memorial
26 February 2008 – Utah Freedom Memorial is introduced at Utah State Capital.
The Utah Freedom Memorial founders, Scott Trudo and Tony Galvez, introduced their idea for a freedom memorial to Utah Senate members today. The memorial, titled, “The Cost of Freedom – A Tribute to Utah’s Military”, is planned to be constructed in Liberty Park.
“We had the audience of all fifty Utah Wal-Mart store managers and all twelve Utah Sam’s Club store managers at the State Capital. Our message was very well received,” said Scott Trudo, a Wal-Mart store manager himself. Packets containing a rendering of the monument, an introductory letter, and a copy of Governor Huntsman’s support letter were handed out to all the store managers and
Lt. Governor Gary Herbert, who also addressed the group in a private session.
“Freedom is not free, and these store managers from Wal- Mart really understand that and are supportive of helping us build this ‘state-wide’ memorial to all Utah soldiers”, said Tony Galvez. Tony visited with Lt. Gov. Herbert who offered to also write a support letter for the monument project.
Monument Arts, the company commissioned to design and build the monument, had several large concept display renderings on hand to show the group. “We are pleased to assist the Utah Freedom Memorial organization with this important monument project,” said Daniel Bolz, project coordinator. Additional designs can be viewed on the groups website.
MORE ABOUT THE UTAH FREEDOM MEMORIAL
The Utah Freedom Memorial organization is committed to build a Utah state-wide memorial that will ‘celebrate freedom and honor those who defend it’. The project was inspired by Tony Galvez, a Gold Star Dad, and Scott Trudo, WalMart store manager and a patriot to freedom. The monument will be designed to celebrate freedom, honor current and past Utah military members with emphasis on the current war on terrorism, and educate children not associated with the military to experience a love for freedom, an awareness of their opportunities to preserve it, and a respect for those who defend it. More information on this memorial project may be found on-line at www.UtahFreedomMemorial.org.
