Utah Freedom Memorial
12 June 2007 - Two Utah Men committed to build a Freedom Memorial in State.
Can anything good come out of war? Two Utah men, Tony Galvez and Scott Trudo, believe that good can come out of war if we remember the underlying issues of freedom. They believe the best way to do that is to construct a monument that will ‘celebrate freedom and those who defend it’.
Tony and Scott approached Paul Swenson about their idea and asked for advice. Paul, who is know as a patriot with a big heart, listened to their idea and decided to help them realize their goal. Paul, as the visionary behind the nationally successful “Healing Field Program”, has many friends who also share his commitment to advancing the cause of patriotism. These people have organized themselves with the sole purpose of building the monument Tony and Scott have felt needs to be built.
The organizing body, Utah Freedom Memorial, is comprised of an Executive Steering Committee, an Advisory Steering Committee, and a Rally Sub-Committee. All donations to the memorial are tax-deductable. Donations can be made on-line at the groups website.
Support letters are already in place including those from Governor Huntsman and Lt. Governor Herbert.
The Utah Freedom Memorial officially commissioned Monument Arts to design and construct the memorial.
The monument, titled, ““The Cost of Freedom – A Tribute to Utah’s Military”, is projected to be located in Liberty Park in Salt Lake City, and is estimated to cost $860,000.00. A completion date of 11 November 2008 is currently the groups goal to have the monument finished.
The Design Objectives for the monument are: 1. Celebrate freedom. 2. Honor current and past Utah military members with emphasis on the current war on terrorism. 3. Educate children not associated with the military to experience a love for freedom, an awareness of their opportunities to preserve it, and a respect for those who defend it.
The Utah Freedom Memorial organization is committed to build a Utah state-wide memorial that will ‘celebrate freedom and honor those who defend it’. The project was inspired by Tony Galvez, a Gold Star Dad, and Scott Trudo, Wal-Mart store manager and a patriot to freedom. The monument will be designed to celebrate freedom, honor current and past Utah military members with emphasis on the current war on terrorism, and educate children not associated with the military to experience a love for freedom, an awareness of their opportunities to preserve it, and a respect for those who defend it. More information on this memorial project may be found on-line at www.UtahFreedomMemorial.org.
